When the Dowager Empress Maria Fyodorovna Romanov (played by junior Kaeleigh Krepp) gives her beloved granddaughter a young Anastasia (Taylor Coy) a music box, she has no idea it is the last time she will see the little girl. Russia is on the verge of revolution and Anastasia’s family— the imperial Romanovs—fall victim to the tide of history. When the Dowager Empress receives the news that they have been put to death, she believes she has lost her entire family.
Rumors begin to surface that one Romanov daughter might have survived. Dmitry (junior Titis Smith) and Vlad (junior Brian Keil) two opportunistic Russian con artists, attempt to find an impressionable girl to pass off as Anastasia to the Dowager Empress, who is offering a reward for her granddaughter’s safe return to Paris. They find Anya (played by senior Abbie Christy) a young woman suffering from amnesia, who has spent the past years traveling across Russia.
Dmitry and Vlad begin to “teach” her what she needs to know if her claim to the Romanov family is to be believed. Anya, Vlad, and Dmitry escape Russia, traveling through Poland, Germany, and more on the way to Paris. Once in the city of lights, Vlad attempts to reconnect with Lily, (senior Natalie Formica) the Dowager Empress’s lady-in-waiting and his lost love, to arrange a meeting between the Dowager and Anya. Anya, meanwhile, is haunted by a nightmare of the Romanov family and pursued by Russian officer Gleb Vaganov (junior Andrew Hudson) who is tasked with making sure the Romanov line has indeed ended. As Anya tries to make sense of her present, she begins to discern a sense of self and is determined to discover her forgotten history.
Audiences won’t want to miss fan favorite Brian Dallke as you’ve never seen him before in a featured dancing role! Senior Taylor Hogan will choreograph one of our chorus numbers and drama club regulars Kalen Bennett, Hannah Jamison, Kaylynda Young, and Kaylie Shepherd will not disappoint. Our program has grown! This year we have about 70 students working together onstage and behind the scenes- building sets, running lights, sound, stage managing, and costumes to bring you to the amazing cities of St. Petersburg and Paris and tell you that the Field High School Drama Club is proud to present ANASTASIA!
